What are Medicare Part A Coverage benefits?

Medicare Part A benefits are hospital insurance benefits that cover inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care services.Medicare Part A helps pay for hospital stays, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility, home healthcare, and hospice care. A person is eligible for Medicare Part A (hospital coverage) if they qualify for one of the following conditions:

    1. Inpatient hospital care: Medicare Part A covers the costs of inpatient hospital stays, including a semi-private room, meals, nursing care, and other hospital services and supplies.

However, if beneficiary is age 65, Medicare Part A Premiums WOULD be required if:

  • Haven't earned 40 quarters of coverage (10 years of work service).
  • If the beneficiary has paid Medicare taxes (FICA) for less than 30 quarters, the Part A premium for 2023 is $506.
  • If the beneficiary has paid Medicare taxes (FICA) for 30-39 quarters, the Part A premium for 2023 is $278.
It's important to note that while Medicare Part A covers many hospital-related expenses, it doesn't cover all healthcare costs. For example, Medicare Part A doesn't cover most outpatient care, prescription drugs, or long-term care in a nursing home. To get coverage for these services, you may need to enroll in Medicare Part B (medical insurance), a Medigap Supplement, or Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage).
