MEDICARE GLOSSARY

Certified AHIP Medicare Health Insurance Agent

A specific State licensed Health Insurance Agent must be AHIP and Medicare Advantage certified to sell any form of Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medigap Supplement Insurance or Medicaid plan. AHIP stands for "America's Health Insurance Plans." AHIP is a national trade association that represents health insurance providers in the United States. AHIP advocates for policies and practices that expand access to high-quality, affordable health care coverage and services for all Americans.

The organization also provides education, research, and other resources to help its members stay informed and adapt to changes in the health care industry. An AHIP salesperson is authorized to represent an insurer or carrier in sales, negotiations, or contract implementation. In Medicare, the insurance agent must go through additional certification to solicit Medicare, Medicare Supplements, or Medicare Advantage Plans.

Medicare Advantage Plan Part C (MAPD) offers better services, greater access to care, and better value; more than 31 million seniors and persons with disabilities select it. Massachusetts enjoys significant bipartisan support because it is a shining example of how the free market and government can cooperate to provide the people of America with more options, lower costs, and better results. In addition to providing extra benefits that original Medicare does not cover, like integrated vision, hearing, and dental benefits, a cap on out-of-pocket expenses, wellness initiatives, in-home caregiver support, and cutting-edge telehealth options, Massachusetts provides affordable coverage by lowering the cost sharing for Original Medicare .
