How do I sign up for Part B Medical Insurance?

If you are eligible for Medicare, you can sign up for Part B (Medical Insurance) during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which is a seven-month period that starts three months before the month you turn 65, includes the month you turn 65, and ends three months after the month you turn 65. You can also sign up for Part B during the General Enrollment Period (GEP), which runs from January 1 to March 31 each year. Here are various ways to enroll for Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance)

    1. Apply online: You can apply for Part B online by visiting the Social Security Administration, (SSA) website at https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/medicare/. Follow the instructions to complete the application.

    • You can also call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and apply over the phone.
    • Apply in person: You can visit your local Social Security office and apply in person. To find your local office, visit the SSA website at https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp.

    • When applying for Part B, you will need to provide some personal information, such as your name, Social Security number, and date of birth. You will also need to provide information about your work history and whether you or your spouse have group health insurance through your employer.
