MEDICARE GLOSSARY

DSNP

A Dual Special Needs Plan is a type of Medicare Advantage plan designed specifically for individuals who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. These individuals are often referred to as "dual-eligible" because they qualify for both federal healthcare programs.

DSNP Medicare Advantage Plans are intended to provide coordinated healthcare coverage and services to meet the unique needs of dual-eligible individuals. These plans typically offer benefits beyond what original Medicare provides, such as prescription drug coverage (Part D), dental care, vision care, and other supplemental benefits. DSNPs often have a network of healthcare providers who specialize in caring for individuals with complex healthcare needs.

It's important to note that eligibility for DSNPs is generally limited to individuals who are both enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B and are also eligible for full Medicaid benefits. DSNPs aim to streamline and improve the healthcare experience for dual-eligible individuals by offering integrated care and additional services beyond what each program provides separately.
