My husband has worked since he was 20. Can I still get Medicare?

My husband has worked since he was 20 years old, but I have four children and have stayed at home to raise them. Can I still get Medicare?

Possibly, but you would have had to fall into one of the four categories below.

Medicare Part A (hospitalization) helps pay for:

A person is eligible for Medicare Part A (hospital coverage) if they qualify for one of the following conditions:

  • US citizen or legal resident aged 65 + and qualified for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Is 65 and entitled to monthly SSA, BASED ON SPOUSES WORK RECORD (not their own work record), AND SPOUSE IS AT LEAST 62.
  • Younger than 65 but entitled to SS Disability Benefits for at least 24 months. (Disabled)
  • Has End Stage Renal failure or ALS (anytime) qualifies in the month the SS Disability Benefits begin.
